SciCentr
SciCentr (founded in 1998) is a collection of 3D, interactive multi-user virtual worlds built by students, staff, and researchers at Cornell University and around the country. It is the flagship for CTC's explorations of desktop virtual reality for outreach and education. SciCentr has the scope of a world's fair, but runs on the model of a traditional hands-on science and technology center, with research, tours, sciencefairs, guest lectures, and more.
The island archipelago in JumpGene world features transposable
elements of DNA. Students investigate the discoveries of pioneer geneticist Barbara McClintock, and are
introduced to the basics of DNA. They visit with a scientist driven mad by the power of his discovery, the sole surviving
caterpillar of a feast on BT enhanced cotton, and founder of genetics, Gregor Mendel.
Gene Dome
In the Gene Dome you can experiment with breeding virtual tomatoes in a virtual laboratory. Players use an open-ended simulation based on Medelian genetics, learning about genetic makeup and exploring its expression in real time. The lab includes sixteen breeding stations.
Marvel
Originally created for a middle school math summer camp in 2005, the Marvel world features nine fun math-related activities. Answer your way through a Mayan number maze, practice inequalities in the Lightning Tunnel, or build shapes in Ticklish Tangrams.
Jaipur
The Jaipur world contains a giant sundial, or Jantar Mantar, based on photographs by Professor Perlus. The instrument is modeled after one found in an astronomical observatory built by Maharajah Jai SIngh II of Jaipur, India, in the 18th century. Visitors can play with this virtual instrument to learn more about telling time with the sun.
