Online Mentor

Pay: $10/hr

Description/Requirements: We are seeking students with interests in science, computer science, engineering, education, math, fine arts, cross-cultural communications, etc. to work in an online multi-user 3D chat environment with teens and middle school students from various schools throughout the country. You will build science fair exhibits featuring Cornell research in the virtual space using Internet technologies through our online outreach programs (www.scicentr.org) or work with classroom teachers to bring ancient civilizations to life. Focus on reinforcing and motivating math, science, computer arts, technology, and language arts learning in a fun, collaborative setting. Students eligible for Federal Work Study are encouraged to apply; Federal Work Study is not required.

Special Requirements: Applicants must be familiar with Windows computing. Commitment to the teens and good communication skills are essential.

Work Schedule: Mentors must be available for regular afternoon or school day blocks (up to 4 hours) Monday-Thursday for the entire semester, and be willing to undergo a background check. Weekly workload is generally less than 10 hrs/week. There will be occasional mandatory meetings and training sessions.
